This competition design was awarded the third place.
We designed a building whose restrained and simple form is subordinated to the laboratory function. Ribbon windows are the optimal solution for providing light to the laboratories, with window sills located at a height of 120 cm. The building entrances are emphasized by distinct recesses that break up the horizontal character of the structure. The facades are finished with solid and perforated fiber-cement panels, as well as three-dimensional concrete panels on the ground floor. A deep orange color accent, reminiscent of the existing faculty building, appears both externally in the form of aluminum profiles and internally in the finishes of the walls, ceilings, structures, furniture, and floors.
The building’s interiors feature a limited material palette consisting of textured plaster, architectural concrete, aluminum sheet elements, and smooth furniture boards. The color characteristic of the project appears on all of these materials in specific places, creating an interplay of surfaces.
